Tutu Specifications

CLASSICAL TUTUS

Made to Professional European Standards.

Skirts and Bodices can be purchased separately.

Classical Tutu skirts are available in the softer English Tutu style or the Russian Pancake Tutu style.

The Russian Tutu (Kirov) is more tightly tacked and flatter in appearance.

The English Tutu slopes gently from the High Hip-line and the net is tacked slightly looser so giving it a much softer fluffier look.

Often worn for Sugar plum Fairy and Odette and many other Classical ballets.

1. CLASSICAL TUTU SKIRT

•       9 – 12 Layers Super Stiff Tutu net (50 gsm) and Stiff Tutu net (27 gsm) mixed.
•       Optional 2 panty ruffles
•       12” – 15” Top layer Net length according to Role, Height of dancer.
•       English Hexagonal Flare Free net used
•       Tightly gathered
•       Hooped and hand-tacked
•       Choice of dagged edges-Scallop or ‘v’- shape
•       Choice of piped basque
•       Basque lined with Cotton Coutil
•       Basque fabric to match Bodice fabric.
•       Petersham waistband with elastic inserts
•       Strong Hooks and Bars closure
•       Cotton Bobinette Panty (Two layers) dyed to match lower ruffles of net or power-net panty.
•       Most colour nets available

BELL TUTUS

Bell shaped Tutus fall to the mid-thigh and are not Hooped.

They slope down at roughly a 45 degree angle from the High hip-line and give a much softer appearance.

They are in between a Classical and a Romantic Tutu. They can have a combination of Tulle and Net or just Net.

Not as popular as the Classical Tutu skirt but still seen in some ballets like La Bayadere.

2. BELL SHAPED TUTU SKIRT

•       7 – 9 Layers Stiff Tutu net (27 gsm)
•       14” – 18” Top layer Net length
•       Usually falls to mid-thigh
•       English Hexagon Flare Free net used
•       Tightly gathered
•       Loose hand tacking—NO Hoop
•       Straight edges—NO dagging
•       Basque lined with Cotton Coutil
•       Basque fabric to match Bodice fabric
•       Petersham waistband with elastic inserts
•       Strong Hooks and Bars closure
•       Cotton Bobinette panty (Two layers) dyed to match lower ruffles of net or power-net panty.
•       Most colour nets available

ROMANTIC TUTUS

Romantic Tutus range from mid calf to above the ankle.

There are two styles available –

One is the Classical variation with the soft Tulle falling from the waist.

The other is the Neo-Classical with Tulle falling from the High Hip-line.

The Classical Romantic has a basque to stabilise the rows of tulle which is not visible.

The Neo classical has a basque like a pancake Tutu which is visible.

Think of ballets like Giselle and La Sylphide with the romantic Tutu appearing ethereal.

3. ROMANTIC TUTU SKIRT

•       Two styles available—-Classical—Net from the waist
•       Neo-Classical—Net from the High Hip on a Basque
•       4 – 5 Layers Tulle (At my discretion for design style)
•       English Diamond or Hexagonal Flare Free Tulle
•       Lengths from 22” – 36”
•       Straight or dagged edges
•       On Classical the Basque is double layered Coutil.
•       On Neo-Classical the basque is Coutil lined and the basque matches the bodice fabric.
•       Petersham waistband.
•       Strong Hooks and Bars closure
•       No Panty attached.
•       Most colour nets available

BODICES

1.Classical Bodice-

•       8 – 10 panels
•       Bias cut side panels for better fit
•       Scooped or V shape neckline
•       Nude insert-standard or low cut
•       Pointed front or curved
•       Piped top and bottom
•       Lined with cotton Coutil
•       Top fabric your choice-silk extra surcharge
•       Strong Hooks and Bars back closure
•       Spiral steel boning on 6 – 7 seams
•       Nude strong shoulder elastic
•       Bodice can curve lower at back
•       Romantic bodice would sit at waist with front point optional

 2. Russian Bodice-

•       Built in basque
•       Bias cut side panels for better fit
